An active curriculum

Our curriculum is based firmly on the needs and interests of our children and is delivered through a wide variety of activities, equipment and play. We aim to give the children experience and understanding of the world in which we live. They are encouraged to contribute their ideas and, as our planning is responsive, we can build on prior learning, individual abilities and interests of the children and we review this on a daily basis. The children are encouraged to take advantage of all learning opportunities to help them develop lively, enquiring minds.

For many activities the children work on a 1 to 1 basis or in small groups and children have plenty of opportunities for self-selecting activities. Children have the option to play indoors or out and we view the garden as an extension of our Nursery.

Overseen by Acting Head of Primary, Mrs Ailsa Lawn, the Nursery will be further supported by a fully-qualified Kindergarten Teacher from August this year. The Kindergarten Teacher plays a vital role in developing and delivering the Nursery curriculum to the pre-school pupils ensuring they move on to school life well equipped to deal with the challenges of formal primary education.

Being part of a 3-18 school, we are fortunate to be able to take advantage of the wide range of school facilities and staff to maximise learning. The Nursery has a strong relationship with the Lomond PE Department and pre-schoolers attend a weekly PE lesson at the School sports complex located on Rhu Road Higher. All Nursery children receive a weekly Music lesson within the Senior School Music Department and teachers in Drama and French visit the Nursery regularly to deliver exciting and engaging lessons.
