As part of our focus on the environment, the Nursery is launching the area’s first Forest School.
The Curriculum for Excellence in Scotland recognises the positive features of learning outdoors and Forest School is an ideal tool for developing successful and confident individuals who are socially and environmentally responsible. Evidence suggests that a philosophy based on a holistic, child-centred approach can be hugely beneficial to young people and Forest School fosters emotional resilience, independence and self-awareness, as well as the language and communication skills crucial to early child development.
Our fully-trained Forest School leaders will nurture and support our young people through a programme of activities carefully designed to engage, motivate and challenge. Core to the Forest School experience is learning through purposeful play and responsible risk-taking which always encourages participants to achieve. Activities such as woodland art and crafts, safe use of tools, shelter building, games, camp fire cooking and the discovery of flora and fauna all feature strongly and are designed to appeal to a range of learning styles. In today’ s society, so often driven by sedentary, technology-based pursuits, Forest School not only increases levels of physical activity but promotes healthy lifestyles and positive mental well-being.
Forest School at Lomond Nursery encapsulates our passion for developing successful, responsible citizens and our belief that the advantages afforded by this most special approach, further encourages our pupils to thrive and flourish as they set out on their journey of exploration and discovery.
