History & Modern Studies

The History Department offers courses in Scottish, British, European and world history from Transitus 2 to Secondary 6. Candidates are presented at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels. Modern Studies is offered as a one year course at Higher. Currently the department also has responsibility for the delivery of global citizenship classes.

Teachers are enthusiastic about the value of history and politics in the curriculum and in society at large. They use a variety of teaching styles and source material; interactive learning and ICT feature heavily in classroom delivery. The department endeavours to bring history alive with appropriate field trips to New Lanark, Liverpool's International Slavery Museum and the First World War battlefields of Belgium and France.

For senior pupils, the department is building an extensive library resource geared to helping with Higher and Advanced Higher research.
