The Physical Education Department is based in the Sports Hall which was opened in 2009. The department comprises three full-time subject specialists and a PE Assistant. The department offers a wide range of sports and activities to pupils from Nursery to S6. Pupils in S3 upwards are also offered the opportunity to complete the Sports Leaders' Awards at Levels 4 and 5.
The department firmly believes physical education is vital for pupils' physical, personal and social development. Each pupil follows a structured programme of activities, allowing them to gain new experiences and learn through a variety of teaching methods and styles.
As a department, we place great value on competitive sport. Our average Saturday morning consists of 6 hockey and 5 rugby teams playing fixtures and friendly tournaments throughout Scotland. Our pupils also have the opportunity to tour with our major sports, with our senior rugby and hockey players having travelled to South Africa for a two-week tour, as well as round Great Britain over the last few years. The netball teams have competed well in the Scottish Cups, reaching the semi-finals and final in different age groups. We encourage participation and commitment to all sports and compete well in both team and individual sports. Extra fitness sessions are available before school to help our top athletes, as well as any pupil wishing to improve their own personal fitness.
Pupils are also given the opportunity to participate in outdoor educational activities, a variety of lunchtime and after school clubs and numerous house activities throughout the year. We have Adventure Days during the summer term to encourage pupils to participate in new activities and new challenges.
