The International Baccalaureate gives our young people a portable, globally recognised qualification which is valued by universities, colleges and employers both at home and abroad.

Along with academic rigour, IB Programmes place a great emphasis on enquiry-based learning, deep conceptual understanding and the development of learners for life. At the heart of all IB Programmes is international mindedness: the appreciation that, other people – with their differences – can also be right. Each IB programme contains a Core in addition to the subjects studied, which prepares young people with the real-life skills and attributes required for success in further education and the world of work. It challenges senior pupils to become more independent in their learning, and demands a range of creative, active and service pursuits alongside academic studies.

“The IBO is globally renowned for delivering exceptional education programmes which are synonymous with putting the child firmly at the centre. Within all IB programmes, the skills young people develop for life beyond school are valued with parity of esteem alongside the grades on their certificates. Success cannot be achieved by mere memorisation or repetition; there has to be originality of thought, a critical awareness and the ability to make connections across different subject disciplines”.
Claire Chisholm, Principal

To ensure that development is all-round and holistic – not just academic – all IB subject courses are taught with the IB Learner Profile in mind. The Learner Profile is a set of guiding principles which motivate and inspire students, encouraging them to be Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded and more. The IB mission statement and learner profile aligns perfectly with Lomond School’s own Philosophy and Values – put them side by side, and you’ll see what we mean! Just like the IB Mission Statement suggests, our role as educators at Lomond is not only about pupil grades – we wish to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better world and make a difference.
