Senior School Curriculum

Senior School pupils benefit from a wide range of subject choices and high levels of support and guidance from teachers and staff.

S1 and S2 (Years 8 & 9)

Our S1 and S2 pupils experience a range of subjects across all curriculum areas with courses written specifically to build on their Transitus years (primary 6 & 7) and prepare them for the rigours of National Qualifications. This tailored approach ensures that Lomond pupils are stretched far beyond the national curriculum and have opportunities to develop the skills and attributes required for success.

S3 and S4 (Years 10 & 11)

Pupils commence their National 5 (equivalent to GCSE) courses in S3 and will typically choose eight from our flexible timetable model. They will study each in depth over S3 and S4 and feedback from parents, staff, and – most importantly – pupils indicates that this is the optimum curricular model. Our two-year approach to National 5 gives additional time for real depth and breadth of learning, and the acquisition of skills and knowledge necessary for the fast-paced one-year Higher courses in S5 followed by Advanced Highers in S6 or the undertaking of one of our 2-year IB Programmes (from August 2021*). 

S5 and S6 (Years 12 & 13)

Our pupils have unrivalled choice and opportunity for flexibility in their post-16 education with both the standard SQA Higher and Advanced Highers on offer as well as the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Careers-related Programme being introduced from August 2021*.


* Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
