A Divine Success: Lomond School Celebrates Stunning Sister Act Run

There was a heavenly aura across Lomond School last week as a cast of 27 Senior School pupils took to the stage for four consecutive sold-out performances of the West End and Broadway hit Sister Act: The Musical.

Following the much-loved 1992 film, the show tells the story of lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier, who is placed in witness protection in a convent and tasked with transforming its struggling choir. Packed with uplifting musical numbers—including Fabulous, Baby!, Raise Your Voice, and Sunday Morning Fever—the production featured a dynamic new soundtrack and sparkling comedic energy. S6 pupils Freya Black and Robyn Fleming shared the lead role of Deloris on alternating nights and gave a five star performance each time.

Claire Chisholm, Principal of Lomond School, said:
“I couldn’t be more proud. What this cast has achieved in such a short time is remarkable. They truly deserved the standing ovation they received on the final night. We’ve been fortunate to stage many wonderful productions in recent years, including Matilda, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Chicago and Romeo & Juliet and Sister Act was no different – simply spectacular. Lomond School has a reputation for delivering exceptional performances, and our Senior Students will no doubt be eager to discover what production comes next. I would also like to thank the large number of pupils involved in the production, backstage and front-of-house crew, as well as our main sponsors JLC and all the local businesses who supported this show. Lastly, nothing would have been possible without our Musical Director, Mr Fleming, who has the patience of a saint and the talent to bring out the very best in every performer. We are very lucky to have him at Lomond School”.

Musical Director Doug Fleming added:

“The cast have worked incredibly hard since auditions in June, and I want to thank them for their unwavering dedication. We are fortunate to work with such creative performers who bring passion, energy and joy to everything they do.”

Audiences were equally enthusiastic, sharing glowing feedback after the performances, including:
“Super performance—hilariously entertaining,”
“This was one of, if not the best, shows I’ve ever seen,”
“I laughed so much my face hurt”
and
“How is it possible to have so many talented people on one stage? Simply brilliant.”

The Music Department won’t be resting any time soon. With Christmas just weeks away, attention now turns to our Lower Junior School Nativity, our Junior School Carol Service, and our Senior School Celebration of Christmas at Helensburgh Parish Church.
