IB & SQA Exam Results
IB and SQA Results 2025
Lomond School is once again very proud of its students as we celebrate another year of outstanding results for both SQA and International Baccalaureate pupils.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) programme at Lomond School has proudly welcomed its third cohort of graduates, achieving results that surpass the global average for the third consecutive year. Our IB Diploma students attained an average score of 33, exceeding the global average of 30. Of all the papers sat, 67% scored at least 5 points out of a possible 7 demonstrating the high quality of the passes.
The SQA National 5 students achieved a 94% pass rate, our highest in 5 years with a staggering 70% of all exams being awarded an A grade and 87% being awarded either A or B.
Yet despite the impressive results, our emphasis remains on each individual and their future pathways – not on faceless statistics.
As Scotland’s only non-selective International Baccalaureate school, where all pupils complete the IB in S5 and S6, what is far more important to us is how the IB sets up our students for their future. IB is a programme of learning for life, not just a means of learning content to pass an exam, which is then forgotten. An impressive 94% of our 2025 cohort have so far gained admission to their first-choice universities with a small number awaiting confirmation from Universities outwith the UK. Our departing students had offers from, and are heading to, top universities including University of St Andrews, University of Glasgow, University of Edinburgh, University of Strathclyde, University of Aberdeen, University of Amsterdam and The Royal Northern College of Music. They will be studying a range of subjects including Medicine, Law, Computational Physics, Marine Science, International Relations, Politics, Fine Art and many more.
Moreover, 100% of our IB Career-related Programme students will attend their preferred university. The success of our students is the driving force behind our efforts, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements during a challenging year. The Career-related graduates will be studying Business, Finance, Investment Risk, Film and Accountancy in a wide range of universities including the University of Glasgow, the University of Strathclyde, the University of Stirling and more.
Lomond School Principal Claire Chisholm stated:
“Our impressive IB and SQA scores are certainly a point of pride, but they represent only part of the story. What truly distinguishes our students is the mindset they cultivate—rooted in curiosity, critical thinking, and a global perspective—rather than simply memorising information. These attributes not only help them excel during their final years of education but also prepare them for success in university and the workforce. At Lomond School, we are committed to preparing students for more than just exams; we are equipping them for life. We know from our IB alumni the difference this qualification makes when at University – the research, independent study and critical thinking demanded at degree level is very familiar to them and they come back to tell us they are thriving, rather than just ‘surviving’.”
“These IB results highlight that the International Baccalaureate is inclusive, flexible, versatile and is open to everyone. With commitment and guidance during their IB experience, our students have attained grades they can genuinely take pride in.”
We are also thrilled to announce, as in previous years, students have gained 40 plus points which place them in a highly selective group of less than 5% of the global IB population.
