Musical Success at Rotary Competition

This week, on Wednesday 28 November, Lomond School hosted the local round of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year Competition.

This is a UK-wide competition open to any pupil (U18) and is split into two categories: vocal and instrumental. Lomond fielded two musicians in each category as did Hermitage Academy.

External adjudicators, both professional musicians, gave very helpful feedback to all the performers at the end of the evening before announcing the winner in each category. We were delighted that Emily S (S5) and Molly K (S6) both won on clarinet and voice respectively. They now qualify for the next round, the West of Scotland regional heat, to be held at the RCS in March.

Our Head of Music, Doug Fleming, commented, “I was impressed with the performances from all the musicians in both schools and happily echo the comments of the adjudicators who said that the standard was even higher than last year. I am especially pleased for our two musicians who played and sang superbly.”
