Senior Pupils visit Paris

Over the October holiday 32 students from S1-3, and four members of staff, travelled to France for a heady mix of language, culture, art, sport and late summer Parisian sun!

After an overnight bus journey and ferry, the group arrived at the PGL hosted Chateau Grande Romaine on the outskirts of Paris. This was our base for the trip where we were royally fed and entertained.

For our first main day the group ventured into the capital. First stop was the impressive Tour Montparnasse, Paris’ tallest building. At the top there is a wonderful viewing platform which would normally have offered fabulous 360 views of the city. Unfortunately, our visit coincided with blanket fog, so we had to imagine what the views would be like as we journeyed through the historical exhibition of Paris. After a whistle-stop coach trip around the Arc de Triomphe and Eiffel Tower, we headed for the Louvre and then on to the bateaux mouches for a cruise down the Seine.

On day 2 we travelled to the market town of Brie where there was a medieval festival. This was a fantastic morning full of food tasting, jousting, juggling and jostling with the imaginatively-dressed locals. Then on to Cité des Sciences, Europe’s largest and best Science museum. In the evening, the group had a very successful go at making crepes.

The final day saw us enjoying a full day at Disneyland. Most managed to get on every ride and we even had time to gawp at the end of day fireworks and light show. Tout compris, a wonderful trip that introduced the group to many of France’s delights. They will all be back for more – j’en suis certain!
