Rugby

Rugby is the main sport played by boys in the winter and spring terms.

Lomond School is proud to have a unique partnership with Helensburgh RFC Youth Rugby. Our rugby players have played in combined teams with Helensburgh RFC since 2010. This partnership was formed to allow every youth rugby player in Helensburgh and Lomond the opportunity to play meaningful competitive fixtures. Fixtures are played as ‘Lomond and Helensburgh Rugby’ with the exception of our Transitus side, which currently competes as a stand-alone Lomond School side.

The project has yielded significant success with the sport developing well in both the school and the wider community. There is a deepening and developing relationship between school and club which will be to the long-term benefit of rugby in the Helensburgh area. In Season 2017-18 Lomond and Helensburgh Under 18 (1stXV) won the Scottish Schools’ Plate Competition at Murrayfield.
Teams are fielded at Transitus, S1, S2, U-15, U-16 and 1st XV level with coaching provided by both Lomond School staff, the local SRU Development Officer and Helensburgh RFC coaches. The teams play against other school sides on Saturday mornings and enter the Scottish Schools Cups at U18 and U16 level.

During their time at school, most Lomond School rugby players will get the opportunity to take part in a rugby tour. The most recent tour saw players travelling to South Africa, alongside our hockey teams.
