Junior School Curriculum

At Lomond School we believe in a holistic approach to education where academic success is far from the whole story.

We are proud of our rich and varied curriculum which is delivered by an experienced and dedicated teaching staff. Although we value academic achievement, we believe it should not exist in isolation and we strive to inspire a love of learning in our pupils as well as the skills and attributes which will help them to become independent and rounded individuals.

We provide a rigorous and structured approach to the core subjects of Maths and Language tailored to each child’s needs, ensuring that each child is supported and challenged appropriately. This exists alongside a flexible and active wider curriculum which provides experiences designed to develop skills and confidence in our pupils.

Our wider curriculum is built around the school’s Guiding Principles and includes specialist teaching in areas such as PE, Music and Drama as well as outdoor learning and adventurous activities. We are privileged to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful and dramatic scenery and we like to use this to our advantage. We know that children thrive when presented with challenge in the outdoors,  and our pupils can regularly be spotted learning in the school grounds or further afield in local woodlands, hillsides and coastlines. These early experiences encourage resilience, determination and self-confidence in our pupils and of course, there is a lot of fun on the way!
