We are delighted to share that Lomond School has entered into an exciting partnership with WEP UK and will be welcoming eight Brazilian students between the ages of 15-17 to our school community from August 2026 until January 2027.
This international exchange programme is delivered in partnership with WEP’s Brazilian counterparts and is sponsored by the Brazilian Government. As part of the programme, the students are required to live with carefully selected host families during their time in the UK.
WEP UK is now looking for families within our local community who may be interested in hosting one of these students and helping to make their experience truly memorable.
Becoming a host family is a unique opportunity to open your home to a young person from another culture, creating lasting friendships and enriching experiences for everyone involved. Hosting allows families to learn about a different way of life, share culture and traditions, and build connections that often last well beyond the exchange programme itself.
What Does a Host Family Provide?
If you choose to become a host family, WEP asks that you can provide:
- A comfortable environment, including a bed, study area and space to store personal belongings.
- Three meals a day, including a packed lunch on school days.
- Warmth, encouragement and support throughout the student’s exchange experience.
- A welcoming home where the student is treated as a member of the family.
Host families receive a monthly reimbursement from WEP to help cover the costs of hosting. Students arrive with their own spending money and are expected to pay for their personal expenses and activities outside the home. Host families are not expected to provide financial support beyond normal household hospitality.
Support Every Step of the Way
WEP provides comprehensive support for both host families and students throughout the programme, including:
Area Representative
A local volunteer who maintains regular contact with both the host family and student, offering guidance and support throughout the exchange.
WEP Office Team
Dedicated staff are available during office hours to answer questions, provide advice and help resolve any concerns that may arise.
24/7 Emergency Support
An emergency phone service is available around the clock should urgent assistance ever be required.
Hosting a young person from another country is an incredibly rewarding experience. While welcoming a teenager into your home can occasionally present challenges, WEP’s experienced team is there to help every step of the way. Open communication and early support ensure that both families and students enjoy a successful and positive exchange experience.
